Newsletter
A decision was made by the Garrett Alumni Association to only publish one newsletter per year. By making the change from two newsletters to one, we can avoid increasing the annual membership dues and continue to provide entertainment during the alumni weekend.
The April 2010 newsletter was mailed to all alumni on our mailing list. In subsequent years, however, a newsletter will be sent only to dues paying members. This will greatly reduce the amount of postage we spend each year. The annual membership will continue to be only $5.00 per year. So, if you wish to continue receiving the newsletter, you must send in your annual membership fee.
You can mail your dues to Garrett Schools Alumni Association along with your name, address and class year to: P.O. Box 55, Garrett, IN 46738 . Paying your dues every year will guarantee that you receive a spring newsletter.
The Garrett Schools Alumni Association officers and committee members work hard and enjoy planning alumni events every year. Hopefully, these changes will have a positive impact on the budget for the Garrett Schools Alumni Association. |

DO YOU REMEMBER?
by Reba (Knapp) Sliger
Do you remember the minstrel group that performed in Altona and Garrett in the early 1930s? Bill Newbauer said his dad wrote the scripts and admission was three cents per person. Three group pictures are available but only one has the performers' names. The names listed on one picture are: Phil, Kenneth and Murland Anderson, Frank Bechtal, Josh Baker, Leone and Art Comiskey, Mr. Carper, Clyde Davis, Clyde Deetz, Clarence DePew, Bub and Frank Draime, Grover Feagler, Mr. Fee, Roy Frances, Mr. Grady, Darl Marker, Mr. Mason, Bill and Jr. Newbauer, Joy Oliver, Ivan Reasoner, Ina Rodebaugh, Isa and Cliff Runion, Frank Smith, Mr. Willard, Lee and Paul Wilmot.
Any information on the group would be appreciated. Contact Reba Sliger at (260) 357-0259, 0697 CR 36, Avilla, IN 46710 or sligersta@gmail.com.

ANNUAL HISTORICAL WALK AROUND GARRETT
The 2010 Walk Around Garrett will begin on Friday morning, July 16, at 9 a.m. at Heritage Park (corner of North Randolph and Railroad Streets) on Garrett's north side. This year's walk will be a slow paced walk of approximately six city blocks. Some historical facts and the usual trivia quiz will be given along the walk. Walkers will return to Heritage Park for refreshments.
Thirty-two alumni, friends and family made the walk during the 2009 alumni weekend with Rocky DePaolo leading the way. The class of 1954 had the most representation, but there were also alumni from the class of 1948 to the class of 2000 present. Four generations of the Jim and Sharron (Andrews) Carroll family participated again last year.
Last year's walk began at the Westside Park, continuing north on Ijams Street past the grotto then east on Keyser Street to Randolph Street, then south to Houston Street and back to the park. Along the way there was much Garrett history imparted along with the usual trivia questions.
Everyone enjoyed more conversation and reminiscing along with cookies, iced tea and lemonade in the park at the conclusion of the walk. Refreshments were provided by Judy and Jim Rahrig, and Carolyn DePaolo. See you on the 2010 walk!
